Halloween recipes, crafts, and Hannah's Sock Drive!

I am horrible and have been slacking on the daily activities! I have been really sick, I do apologize. But, this week is all about baking anyway! Later in the week my friend and I will be baking up some cookies for the kids to decorate, and tomorrow is caramel apple day! Not only that, but we are introducing my little guy to his first apple bobbing adventure! I can't wait! Here are two fun websites to visit: This one has 15 great Halloween Recipes, and this one has 31 AWESOME crafts to do for Halloween. Wish I had found that before. There is one more big thing for today, which I am sure some of you may already be aware of.....

Now I want to talk about a really neat Charity. I am delivering our cups in the next couple of days, so I am glad I can get jump started on another activity. In 2004, a little four-year-old girl in Toledo, Ohio helped her mom, Doris, serve food at a local homeless shelter. When little Hannah Turner was there, she saw a man with holes in his shoes, and he didn't have any socks. So sweet little Hannah asked her mom if she could offer her own socks to that man. The next day, Hannah and her mom went and purchased and distributed socks to the local shelters. They collected and donated over 100 pairs of socks around Toledo. Over the next two years, Hanna, her mom, and their family and friends distributed nearly 10,000 pairs of socks to shelters. Since then, this number has grown to 100,000, and now includes domestic violence shelters as well. Hannah's Socks Holiday Sock Drive has started up again, collecting socks and funds for this year's upcoming winter and holiday season.

The Clorox Company was inspired by Hanna's story and became a sponsor of Hanna's Socks this season as Hannah's Socks strives to gather and donate 10,000 pairs of new socks to underprivileged children's programs as well as homeless and domestic violence shelters. As I mentioned before, it is important to me to show my kids that even little hearts like theirs can make a BIG difference, and I think collecting some socks would be an easy thing for them to do!

I would love it if you could spread the word to your community to collect socks at home, school, work, or church for this great cause. Families can also donate funds and find out more about Hannah's Socks and the Holiday Sock Drive at www.hannahssocks.org.

4 of you are the "cool kids":

What a great charity! I'm one of those people who freeze without socks so I can't imagine what it would be like not to have some.

I gave you the Honest Scrap Award on my blog. Stop by & pick it up when you get a chance.
