So, the new calendar is UP! Just scroll down to the very bottom, and you will see all of the events that are either free or frugal! You can download, add to your google calendar, whatever you want. Included on that calendar is the Michael's event I almost forgot about. On Sunday they are having a little make-a-Halloween-shirt event! Call your local Michael's to double check time and details. And now for AWESOME Halloween party hints.....
WAIT! Before I tell you about the fun Halloween party we attended, I must ask a favor of voting for me. I have no false beliefs that I will ever make it to top mommy blogger, there are SO many fantastic ones out there, but can we at least get me on the list? Like not negative? That would be awesome, you know the drill, click the button on the top of the right sidebar!
I just had a fun night at my new blogger buddy's family's Halloween Party. My kids looked super cute, and how freaking ironic that her kids showed up wearing the costumes we ALMOST bought for ours?? Really?? I couldn't decide who was cuter. It was a last minute soiree for us, but we got ourselves together and made it in time to enjoy the festivities. I didn't go with a blog post in mind, but it was just TOO awesome NOT to blog about, especially for me! The kids had a blast, we had adult time, and it was fun. I can't believe my hubby went. He is usually a naysayer, and last night neither of us slept (I swear, it was a full moon because both of these kids cried every half an hour-of course opposite one another). He even said he had fun! I must say usually I am always looking around to make sure he isn't hiding in a corner somewhere, but this time, he was always talking to someone and (gasp) enjoying himself. Someone slap me because I am dreaming. I must say, this party rocked for the kids. The hostess thought of everything. There was a table with playdough, a table for crafts, the coolest treats, even a fortune teller (who got the secrets beforehand!!! The kids loved her!). There were skull chocolates, a lab table, a guess the body part activity (an activity I am describing next week), spider mini-dogs, a slime experiment, a progressive spooky story where the parents told the story, cartoons, green liquid, witch hat cookies.....I can't think of ONE thing that I would say they were missing. They had it ALL! I give the hostess 8 spooky spiders thumbs up. So, there is your clue for your next Halloween party. Something for everyone, fantastic decorations, and things that even make parents go "hmmmmm, wonder how she did that". I am telling you, this mom asked these kids how they wanted to pay, by their blood or fingers (I am pretty sure that was it), so they dipped their fingers in a liquid, put their hand on paper.......and "bloody" handprint appeared. I want to be this cool mom! There was never a dull moment for anyone, and if someone didn't want to participate in something, they had plenty of other options. There were kids there from infant to 7 or 8. Everyone had something to do.Heck, there were even "books on tape" of Halloween stories for kids to listen to! I had to laugh because my 11 month old kitty actually thought the kitty stairs were the funnest thing ever. Cracked me up. It was fantastic! And wives.....get this....the hubby was just as much as a host! We only knew two people. But the hostesses hubby, dressed up as a (not too scary) zombie, talked to us, played with the kids, got dry ice, filled trays. He was awesome with the parents. Momma could focus on the kids. No kids (or parents for that matter) were left in the corner alone. No one left this party sad or hungry. And if I was a kid, I would have left that party thinking it was the coolest thing ever! So, from this party that wasn't even mine...my top ten of what it takes for a successful Halloween party
10. Decorations that start from the outside and carry through the entire house. There was not one place you could look that there wasn't a Halloween decoration, food shaped like a skull or a spider or a witches hat, or a glass full of glowing green liquid!
9. Dry ice (duh).....more than 1 Halloween themed food, and some goodies that parents love too (my gosh, like those barbeque mini hot dogs mmmmmmm. And the skull chocolates that were so perfectly displayed with tombstone white chocolates. My thighs are fattening as we speak)
8. At least two stations where kids who don't want to participate, or are too little to participate, can have fun-also great for a distraction if needed!
7. A surprise game-that isn't duplicated at every party-this momma had each kid make their own slime!!! AWESOME!
6. No Halloween party is complete without a "Guess the body part" game. This momma had it to an art! Even I couldn't guess what all of them were (and hubby and I sat there for five minutes smelling my finger going "what IS that? I recognize it, just can't place it....)
5. Parent involvement! BOTH my hubby and I jumped at the surprise in the progressive story! Plus, it got all parents together and made them seem cool to their kids, what is better than that?
4. A PLAN B!! The fortune teller was taking longer than expected...guess what! Charlie Brown's Halloween was on T.V. for a distraction!
3. Surprises and tricks that the kids can't figure out. They are still wondering how this fortune teller knew what they want to be when they grow up! And I heard one kid say "HOW did she get the blood from my hand??" Heck, I am still wondering how she made the slime!
2. Other toys out for the little sisters/brothers. When the big kids were busy, so were the little ones with regular toys, flashlights, etc.
1. Enough for the parents that stay! We had food, we had drinks, we watched the cartoon, we made crafts with our kids, we talked to other adults, and the hubby was around talking to everyone. We were NEVER bored.
Here are some pictures, not many I know but I just had to take facial shots! I wish I could show the front of my babies costumes, but you know I just can't!

11 of you are the "cool kids":
You are too kind! When Laurie told me you blogged about the party I had to come take a peek. You made my hubby's night by saying nice things about him but he is an attention hound:) I am so glad your family had a great time and I hope to see you all again when I have more time to visit! And anytime you want to know any of my party secrets just drop me a line, sadly the simplicity of them might make you less impressed by me! :)
Sounds like a fun time. I love the costumes.
I love you blog! Stop by mine as I have an award for you:
