I am very excited to introduce the newest aspect of this blog, and that is book reviews and giveaways! When I do have some extra time, I love to read, and I really enjoy that now I am being exposed to different books than I would usually choose.

My first review (and giveaway!) is  The Power of Respect (Thomas Nelson/ Oct 2009) by best-selling author, journalist and Inside Edition anchor Deborah Norville. She illustrates how respect is further reaching than respecting your elders or your boss. She shows the lack of, as well as the importance of, respect in the family, business, organizations, schools, etc. She even steps into the world of self-respect, and how closely this is related to our self-image and confidence. The book is focused on the simple but all-too-often belief that respect is simply treating people as though they matter.

Deborah supplies scientific and specific evidence on the benefits of effects, ranging from extreme increases in student's test scores as well as the monetary savings in businesses. The book is filled with examples, studies, facts, stories, great quotes and tips.

At first I wasn't sure how this book would relate to me, but in fact it covers all aspects of respect. She goes over the importance of not only showing those in your lives the respect they deserve, but also in how to subtly but firmly demand that same respect back. It is a great resource for not only bosses and leaders, but also parents, teachers, and anyone else who is in the position to teach and influence others on how to live more positively.

It definitely made me think about how I want my children to treat me, themselves, and others. The book's message of the great personal benefits of respect, such as loyalty, trust, and mutual respect, are strong messages that I want in my home.

that really sounds like a good book. i believe that is one of the major problems with the world anymore is the lack of respect. and each generation just seems to lack it less and less. have a great day...hugz!

p.s. i never thought about a giveaway, (other than my samples) but that is a good idea for the holidays. i do make gift baskets also so i will think about this and let you know.
