Saturday's Tricks & Treats activities, Day 10!!

Well, it isn't just snowing here. It is downright stinking COLD. And when I say COLD, I mean that today's isn't even going to reach 40 degrees. BUT, that isn't going to stop us on a family day smack dab in the middle of trick & treats for our little sweets. My ladybug is going to be mistaken for a gigantic pink hostess snowball in her big pink snowsuit, and my son is going to look like those kids in "A Christmas Story" that can't even put their arms down. But, we will be attending the annual pumpkin launch! What in the frankenstein's is that you ask.....

Well, a whole bunch of creative and handy people get together and build all sorts of different contraptions to put a pumpkin in and launch it as far as possible. There are prizes, hayrides, little mazes, games, and all sorts of fun for the little ones. Last year it was just as cold, my husband was working, and I was 8 months pregnant, but me and bug went anyway! It is one of those things that just help to make the holiday. And like Halloween around here, it tends to be so cold your nose hurts, but you have fun anyway. Here is a picture of my son last year doing some of the different activities!

So, that is today's tricks & treats. Maybe you are lucky enough to have a pumpkin launch nearby, but even if you don't, I bet you have SOMETHING Halloween related. There is some place that has a hayride, pumpkin decorating or something! Just check out your local newspaper, county website, rec center website. If you absolutely can't find anything, catch up on some older crafts or activities you haven't had a chance to do yet. Or get that costume so you can enter the costume contest. But have some fun with your little one.
And just as an added bonus, who among us doesn't remember the monster mash???

Monster Mash

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise

CHORUS - (change pronouns (he, they, she) as needed)
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

REPEAT CHORUS HERE

The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

REPEAT CHORUS

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

REPEAT CHORUS

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you

REPEAT CHORUS
-Boris Picket

5 of you are the "cool kids":

You know, there's nothing like watching a big ol' pumpkin flying through the air! Even on a freezing cold day! Enjoy!

It's really snowing there?? Wow.... we hardly ever get snow... and usually not until January. That pumpkin launch sounds like a lot of fun!

I left you awards over on my blog... so grab some warm coffee or cocoa and go get em :)

We had something like that up in Delaware. Pumpkin Chuckin. It was a ton of fun. I can't believe you're so cold and it's 90 degrees here. The weather is crazy. Thanks for commenting on my pregnancy and infant loss post. It helps when I talk about it. Please make sure you check back tomorrow. I'm going to have a quest blogger. Danielle from http://wyattnathaniel.blogspot.com is going to share her story with us and ask for our help in getting a birth certificate for her son Wyatt who was only with us for two min.

Kids are so much more immune to the annoyance of cold weather than we are!
