Time out for Theta Mom Thursday and the Witches Hat craft!

I can't believe it is already that time of the week, but here it is, Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday!Further, since I have THREE! (wow, can someone shut me up please?!) posts today, I am combining today's Trick & Treat craft (since I was doing these crafts for my timeout anyway!) with Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday!

Well, I didn't get my sushi this week, but I did end up getting some unexpected time to myself. It was much needed too!
My husband and I usually work opposite hours so the kids don't have to go to daycare, which means we don't often get a full day off with one another. But this past weekend, we actually ended up with three full days off together. On Saturday morning we had a cold but fun day at the pumpkin launch. When we came back home, my hubby stayed downstairs with baby girl and little man and I came upstairs to do crafts. I had a ton to catch up on, and halfway through my son wanted to go see what daddy was doing. I ended up being able to do crafts by myself and catch up on some dvr'd shows while my kids played with daddy downstairs for about and hour and a half. It was simple but very very nice!
It got me to thinking, though. I actually made a mental note for myself to remember to use this as my Time out for Theta Mom. Isn't it funny how we actually have to either try to REMEMBER an hour we had to ourselves? It seems funny that an hour a week seems hard to do, when there are so many hours in a week. I wouldn't trade it for the world, and I love being with my kids, but it is weird when you get to thinking of it!
I hope you had an awesome Theta Mom Thursday!

And here is one of the many crafts I did. I totally just had random stuff laying around and starting trying to put things together. Here are the materials I used for the witches hat.
Materials
  • Paper plate(I used an appetizer plate)
  • Regular piece of construction paper
  • Two Chenille stems any color
  • Silver glitter glue
  • Black paint

Directions
  1. Cut the bottom part of the rim off (not the whole rim, just where it levels off)
  2. Roll the construction paper starting at the corner to make a cone.
  3. Cut the button (fat end) to make it flat
  4. Paint the paper and the plate black and let dry.
  5. Put a few line of the glitter glue on and use the paintbrush to spread it, so that the glitter is lightly scattered on the surfaces. Let dry.
  6. Hot glue gun the cone to the paper
  7. When everything is dry, hot glue gun the chenille stems around the bottom of the hat.
  8. Fold a small portion of the top of the hat.
  9. Use the glitter glue to make some squiggle lines on the hat.
  10. And there is your witches hat!

It is hard to see with this picture, but there are also light sparkles all over

17 of you are the "cool kids":

What a cute craft and I totally agree with you...why is it we have to plan to take the hour and then try hard to remember it? It's only an hour! LOL Glad you spent some time doing what you love and grabbing some time with the hubs all day is always a plus, too. :)

I think the hat looks great. Happy to hear you got some time out for yourself.

Thank goodness someone else is as random as me. My son calls me random all the time. I can't help it, people don't believe me cause i'm not hyper but I have ADD. my brain is always moving 100 miles a minute and I have trouble focusing. lol

I loved that part of the Wolverine movie. KOO KOO Kueatschue or whatever. Have you seen it? lol

Good for you and I love the hat - so cute!! Is this part of a halloween ensemble?

I have to send you a photo of me as a witch from when I was 3 or 4...my mother made me this sad lookin' witch hat. It is such a funny photo! Maybe I'll post it on FB! :)

I completely understand working a different shift than your husband, we did that for awhile. Glad you enjoyed your hour.

I am loving the witches hat! Super cute! I am gonna take note and just might bust out some hats myself. Thanks for sharing! That is a fabulous way to spend some momma time. I agree that trying to fidn 1 hour in a 168 hour period seems so silly, but it really is hard. But well worth it when you get it!

A cute little craft! The kids will have to make it as I'm always running OUT of ideas!

Finding time ALONE is really tough for me as well. I'm a SAHM with a 3 1/2 year old boy and a 21 month old girl; and don't get me wrong because I LOVE it but time alone is hard to find.

I go to the gym super early (5 AM before hubby and the kids wake!!) just so I can get some alone time in.......and some exercise to boot!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I truly appreciate it!
