I hadn't heard of Rock n Learn before they contacted me about a review, and I was pretty excited to be able to check them out. Both of my little ones are big music fans, and they dance, clap their hands, and sing along when they appreciate what they are hearing. Plus, I've noticed that my son tends to learn things really quickly when we put it in a song....like spelling his name. And while I know kids shouldn't watch too much t.v., come on, lets get real. We NEED them to watch t.v. sometimes, and if they are watching t.v. I want it to be something that doesn't teach them how to pick their nose, hit a mouse with a bat, smell their own stinkies, or anything else that the cartoons teach these days.

I was sent the Nursery Rhyme DVD and the Learning Spanish DVD. As soon as he opened HIS package (I apparently don't get mail anymore, but he sure does!) my son asked if he could watch the "ducks", which is the nursery rhyme one. I am not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that my son watched the thing from beginning to end without ever once taking his eyes off the t.v. Baby girl was dancing along and clapping her hands, and even I was enjoying watching my favorite nursery rhymes come to life in a fun way. As soon as the video was over...which was about 40 minutes later, my son IMMEDIATELY asked to watch it again. Baby girl simply whined and pointed to the t.v., demanding to be satisfied. I started it again, and this time my son would ask me some questions, or talk about what he was seeing. He laughed when Jack jumped over the candlestick, he told me that fire was bad, and asked what 9-1-1 was when they went over the safety part, and he has asked a bazillion times from then to now to watch his goose show again. I even really enjoyed it. The old nursery rhymes were definitely silly, and my husband and I had a good laugh or two over why Georgie Porgie kissed the girls and ran away when the boys came along.
The colors are bright and cheerful, the music is fun and entertaining, and the video is absolutely 100% fun for kids without ANY negative things. My son is now singing nursery rhymes from the DVD, and it will calm baby girl down from her attitude every time. You can even see a part of the video HERE.

We actually didn't watch the Spanish one until a few days later. My son is only 3, and I really wasn't sure if it was something he would enjoy. Further, I didn't really see how he would get anything out of it this young. But I was wrong. It is set up in a fun and entertaining way. The words come on the screen as they say them, both in English and Spanish. There are also fun pictures when it covers foods and silverware. The sing-song style made it so that my son could remember it. The DVD started with very simple words and phrases, and then continued to progress into even plural words and longer phrases. When it started to get advanced, my husband asked my son if he wanted to stop it, but nope. Little man just sat there and watched the whole thing, and loved every second of it. It is definitely a DVD I will play for him often to get him used to not only hearing the word and the accent, but also seeing the words and hearing them together with the English ounterpart HERE is a portion of the video so you can see it for yourself!
