GIFT GUIDE ALERT: McNeill designs games

YOU'VE BEEN SENTENCED
The first time I reviewed this game, I actually did so with my niece and nephew. Since then my husband and I have played it more and more, as have I with my best friend and her daughter. Everyone is in agreement, this game is AWESOME! As are all of the add-on packs that you can get to make the game different each time you play it! There are a ton of add-on packs such as sports, gourmet cuisine, and pop fiction.

The last thing most kids want to hear when they are out of school and done with homework is "hey, let's do some learning!" Luckily, "You've Been Sentenced" is so much fun they don't even realize they are learning as they go! The game seems simple enough...but is pretty challenging!

Each person is given 10 pentagon cards. Each edge of the pentagon has a word (or group of words) on it. Each person must use the ten cards to make a sentence. Points are earned based on how many words you use, and how many points each word is worth. After the person whose turn it is finishes their sentence, they flip over the handy hour glass and the other players must complete their sentences before time runs out. After everyone finishes there sentence, the "jury" gets to vote on whether or not a sentence should count.....so be sure to have your defense ready!! And if I could offer a bit of advice....agree BEFORE the game on what makes a sentence okay. Some people are all about grammar and some think it should just be funny. A few guidelines may help!

I really have nothing but good things to say about this game. I thought my husband might not like it much since he isn't a fan of scrabble or any other word-type games. BUT, I was wrong. He loved it! And I think he may have had the best defenses for his sentences. The kids laughed all the way through, and I relaxed and had a great time myself! I think this would be a perfect gift to give any family...some time together and a lot of great laughs!

TWISTED FISH
Designed for ages 6 and up, "Twisted Fish" is based on the classic Go Fish game. Players each get 8 cards and try to complete a set of fish in the five different colors. There are also 8 "Zinger Cards". When you get a Zinger card, you are allowed to make a one-time game move that will either help yourself or hurt someone else. One such evil little card allows you to take a card from an opponent and make them put it back! As soon as someone runs out of cards, everyone totals up their points and the winner is of the round is determined. Game play continues until someone reaches 400 points. It is designed for ages six and up, but since it is so similar to Go Fish, it is easy to play it with younger kids with just a little help from the family!

WHEEL OF CHORE-TURE
The Wheel of Chore-ture is every mom's very best friend!! The Wheel of Chore-ture is a magnetic backed card with a spinner. Stick this baby on your fridge and then let your kids spin for their chore of the day, their punishment for calling their sibling a nae, or just generally when they are making you want to scream and you want to keep them busy. What kid doesn't love a spinner? And this way, they can't be made at you for making them do the most "dreaded" chore in their mind.......they spun for it! I think that this one may be a great gift for mom!

I am a HUGE fan of McNeill designs. Their games are fun, family-friendly, unique and silly. The instructions themselves have little quips that will make mom and dad laugh and even the "game" (Wheel of Chore-ture) that is work has the kiddo's enjoying themselves! These are games that I would not only recommend but will be giving as gifts as well!

Oh! spacey spacey me forgot to tell you that they are available at Toys R Us and Kohl's. (Kohl's, think about the little cards that come in the mail all the time for percentage offs and $10 for anything 10 or less. I am in love with Kohl's.)
