Okay, I am pulling the big guns out. Now, I am not a HUGE reader of parenting books per se. I did read "love and logic" and "123 magic" but really, I kind of just mixed those with my own philosophies and went along my merry way. However, my 4 year old little guy is a challenge. He is smart enough to not only justify but rationalize his thoughts and sometimes this stinker is winning. Not only that, but he has heard enough words come out of the wrong people's mouth's and he knows what he is saying is wrong, but it doesn't stop him from walking down the stairs while he calls mommy a silly "B". Yes, the whole word. Though he trailed off at the end, proof that he knew what he was doing was in fact wrong.
So I went in search of some books because I am out of options. I started with "How to behave so your kids will too", but all I really got out of that was where my son learned that dang B word from in the first place. So now I am on to "you're not the boss of me" Pretty good start, I must say. We shall see how it ends. It hasn't given me any real specific advice yet, other than "really, telling your son to look you in the eyes while you talk to him only closes his ears and makes him think "I hate it when mom does this"". So off we go.
I will be sure to update you on any future four letter words I get called in the process of the book reading. And I can promise no kids will be hurt in the process of this change.....but mommy's feelings and pride may take quite the dinger.

3 of you are the "cool kids":
good luck...
we're working on 123 Magic in our house...if I could learn to shut it, I think it will totally work. :)
Ahh the 4 yr old. I've two of them in the house and they are both very strong willed. My little sweet innocent angelic little girl has learned. " F U" from one of the newer boys and it's horrid. I tried ignoring I've tired talking to her, I've tried putting her on time out.
Maybe i need some more parenting books.
great post..
miss your blog
